Christmas spirit?

A few days ago, during the last snow, I was at work, Jane was home and went out to clear the end of the driveway. We are thankful for the efficiency of the snow plows, but the effect of clearing the road is to make a little, and sometimes large, snow and ice wall at the end of the driveway. We have found the most efficient way is to clear the path little and often. When the snow gets too deep, it's really hard to shift—especially if we have freezing rain before or after the snow. The other day we had freezing rain, snow, and more freezing rain. Jane was struggling with the heavy, packed snow.
A car slowed to a stop and two women got out. "We can help you with that," they said with a smile."Do you have any more shovels?" A while later the three women had the driveway clear, many hands making lighter work. Jane and the others exchanged pleasantries, and Jane offered them something for their help. They refused, and wished Jane a "Merry Christmas!" Who would have thought two strangers—apparently from Arizona studying at Ithaca College—would be so kind? Faith in humanity restored.
I write on Christmas Eve. Earlier today we braved the shopping madness to get some last minute things for the festivities. Mid-afternoon we arrived home to find a poinsettia and a little bag of cookies by the mailbox. The attached notecard read, "From your friends in Arizona."
The spirit of Christmas.
Tiny Tim observed, "God Bless Us Everyone!"
